After reading about our Moon, write a summary in the Read IT! section of your booklet.
Earth’s Moon is a natural satellite, which means it is not man made and revolves around Earth. It takes about 29 days for the moon to make one complete revolution or orbit around Earth. It also slowly rotates on its axis about once every 29 days.
The moon is composed of rock and has valleys, mountains, and craters. It is about ¼ the size of Earth. No life on the moon. The moon has no atmosphere, allowing objects in space to hit its surface leaving the surface permanently scarred and cratered. Because the moon has less mass than Earth, it also has less gravity. Earth has about 6 times as much gravity as the moon. |
